This photo will be the oil painting called HILTON HEAD MARSH #2.

 

 

Here's the drawing on my 12 inch x 12 inch canvas.

 

 

First I painted the sky.

 

 

Then the trees and grasses and water...

 

 

Then I moved to the foreground and did an undercoat of green for that area of grass.

 

 

DAY TWO...

 

 

I finished the grasses and mud in the top half of the painting, then began the patch of grass on the left.

painting shadows in the grasses...

 

 

Painting highlights in the grasses... I think that does it!

 

This is painting number five in my series of six small pieces called “Scenes from Hilton Head Island.”

I sure do love the marshes of the Low Country. They are quiet, and peaceful, and full of interesting birds. (Which make for interesting sounds.)
