The best part of being an artist, is the moment when you decided a painting is DONE!

Yesterday I finished an oil painting that I’ve been working on since January 19th. It’s called “Rudbeckia.” (The official name of the big yellow flowers is “Rudbeckia hirta Prairie Sun,” but I thought that was a little wordy to be the title of a  painting.)

It’s wet and rainy today, but having a big-new-colorful-FINISHED-painting sitting on my easel is totally cheery up my studio.

I made a little “movie” below that shows photos of the painting from start to finish. If you’re interested in seeing the whole project come to life, it takes about 4 minutes to watch. It lost my interest after about 2 minutes, but maybe because I know how it turned out??? 🙂

You can read more about the meaning behind this painting on my website. It’s really not all that deep… just part of my pursuit of appreciating beauty.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and go look for something beautiful today!

  1. Watched the video. . .feels like spring has arrived. . .at least the flowers were growing in your studio. . .we still have mounds of snow in Wisconsin.
My “spring is coming” gift today was a bright red-orange hibiscus flower
from my over-wintering hibiscus tree. I am blessed!
