painting “beach rentals”
Export to PDF | Export to DOCHere’s the first painting I’ve begun since June that was NOT a commissioned project . Which basically means, it’s the first painting I’ve done in several months, in which I chose the subject matter. During the second day into this painting I realized something. I had just finished a […]

Scenes from Hilton Head Island
Export to PDF | Export to DOCHere’s a preview of the new series I’ve been working on. It’s called “Scenes from Hilton Head Island.” When finished, it will be a group of six small 12″ x 12″ oil paintings. I’m creating them for Greenville Open Studios weekend — November 6 & 7, 2010 — which […]

the curse of the right brain (“adams lane” days 5 & 6)
Export to PDF | Export to DOCHere’s the last day of photos showing my process and progress while working on the oil painting called “adams lane.” As I looked back over this last set of photos, I find it hard to believe that I spent an entire day painting the trees. How is that possible? […]

the sunny side of the fence (“adams lane” day 4)
Export to PDF | Export to DOCI spent most of my day painting a fence. There are about 55 different little pieces that make up the white fence. so thankful for 20/20 vision (painting “adams lane” day 2)
Export to PDF | Export to DOCToday I worked on painting the house, the barns, and the other little structures. Painting all this detail made my eyes cross (I’m not exaggerating)… mainly because it was so hard to see any detail in the photos. Hopefully I won’t need to get glasses as a result of […]

Export to PDF | Export to DOCI’m happy to report that I have successfully completed the third of my three commissioned paintings for my client from Travelers Rest, SC named Ron. I put the finishing touches on this painting at the end of the day on Friday, and I’m really pleased with how it turned […]

Drawing what I can’t see (“adams lane” day 1)
Export to PDF | Export to DOCThis week I’m staring the third of three commissioned oil paintings for my client Ron. I saved this one for last because I thought it may be the most challenging — I wanted to make sure my painting skills were back up to snuff after the summer break. It’s […]

The reality of the early morning sun (“intercoastal sunrise” day 4 & 5)
Export to PDF | Export to DOCI finished my sunrise! This has been a very stretching landscape project to work on. Mostly because the lighting is so different in the early morning compared to the mid-day skies that I normally paint. The inner struggle I’ve had all week was this: “Do I paint what’s shown […]
