Shrimp, Finger, Mullet (painting “bait stand” part 5)

Today I'm going to work on the sign in the lower right corner.

Shrimp...

Finger... (That certainly does not sound appealing to me. Hopefully it does to the fish.)

Mullet! (Does anyone know what mullet is? (besides a nasty '80s hairdo)

Today I worked on three different paintings.

Since I paint with oils, I often have to let things dry before I can move on to the next section of that piece. That’s why I don’t just work on one painting at a time until it’s complete.

Here’s a few photos of my progress on the painting called “Bait Stand.” (I’m assuming these words on the sign are things that are used for bait??? )

Painting these words today reminded me of Mr. Fanning, my art teacher in 7th and 8th grade. I still remember how he taught us how to make block letters. That is a skill that I still use to this day. I learned all kinds of great art skills those two years I spent under Mr. Fanning’s instruction. I wonder what ever happened to him?

I’m thankful that I had great art teachers while in school when I was a kid. I know that’s a huge part of why I’m artist today.

So to all you Art Teachers out there… THANK YOU!

  1. I have no idea what mullet is, but I like the addition of your runner’s number to your bulletin board. Who would have thought 5 years ago that one would hang so proudly in your studio?! 🙂

  2. I always forget that my bulletin board gets in the photos. 🙂 Can you believe I was 633rd in the race? Next thing you know I’ll be in the Olympics. A

Speaking of 5 years ago, did Brennah just turn 5 the other day? I can’t believe that!!

I’ll let you know if I ever find out what Mullet is…
