Bring the beach to your computer this month. (July’s Desktop Calendar)

Summer is in full swing here in South Carolina!

If you aren’t crazy about the heat, you can use this painting to bring the beach view inside where it is nice and cool (and UV protected.) My new July desktop calendar features a painting I created from a photo I took while walking on the beach at Hunting Island, SC one glorious afternoon.

Hunting Island State Park is probably one of my favorite places in the whole world, yet this painting was actually somewhat of a struggle for me. Maybe because I painted it during the winter when it was still cold and gray outside? Hopefully when you look at it, you’ll feel the warmth of the summer sun shining on your face.

I began working on this piece in January as part of a series of seven paintings I did for the South Carolina ETV headquarters. I got it to the point where it COULD have been done, but the longer I looked at as the weeks passed the more I saw things I wanted to change. So twice I went back and made some major changes to the beach in the foreground. I don’t normally work this way, but with so many paintings due at one time, it was definitely a juggling act to complete them all.

Happy Summer. Happy July. Happy “Hunting Island!” 🙂

  1. It’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I was enjoying looking at the June railroad tracks so much that it took this long to realize it was time for a new one! It is refreshing!

    • That is funny, Patty! It actually took me a few days into July to make the switch too because I also really liked the tracks. The beach scene does seem cooler on the hots days of summer though. So glad to hear you are still enjoying the calendars after all these years! 🙂
