Painting “afternoon nap” (part 1)

I'm starting another landscape today. He's my sketch. It's called AFTERNOON NAP, because I want you to feel like you've been dozing in the grass that will be in the foreground of this piece.

Orange canvas. (I painted this in January.)

I'm painting from the top down. I start with the sky and add some white for the clouds.

The white line across the middle is the horizon line. I'm going to blend the blue sky into that line. It will look cool when I'm done! (Trust me...this is a technique I figured out YEARS ago!)

So what do you think of that white line across the middle? It looks pretty horizon-y doesn't it? 🙂 Just wait until the water meets up with it for the full-effect.
